It’s easier to find comic book characters who have “died” at least once than it is to find characters who have never had the chance to flip through the guestbook of their own funeral. Which, you’d think, would lead the good people of the Marvel U to not take death at face value. Standard protocol for every superhero and supervillain death should involve tests for shapeshifters (Skrull or otherwise), clones, evil twins, interdimensional doubles, and/or robots. And if there’s not a body? Well, you might as well just keep setting that extra place at dinner. But had anyone picked up on this in May of 1969?
Apparently not, because we’ve got Captain America #113 – the death of Captain America! (And you thought he died during Civil War. Bah.)
